The training is designed to improve practitioners' abilities to assess, engage, and treat people with co-occurring mental health and substance use problems.
Practical strategies and methods are offered to help change interviewing methods, treatment planning and documentation, program components, range of services, and policies to better engage the dually diagnosed client.

Continuing education credits are available when using this series as a home study course.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Identify clinical dilemmas when working with dually diagnosed individual
  • Develop assessment strategies, techniques and priorities to determine how to deal with alcohol and other drug use in those with mental illness and vice versa.
  • Employ clinical strategies to engage the client and to develop a treatment plan that meets the client's individual needs with a clear understanding of the client's "stage of readiness" to change.
  • Pinpoint the program, staff and systems necessary to develop 'person-centered' services, rather than perpetuating fragmented care for dually diagnosed clients.
